1. Information We Do NOT Collect

Unlike conventional utility apps, Scale Online Ruler does not require registration, credit card details, physical addresses, or phone numbers. When you place an object against your screen or adjust calibration sliders:

  • We do not record what physical items you measure.
  • We do not capture screenshots or images of your workspace.
  • We do not log your exact physical location coordinates.

2. Local Storage Usage (On Your Device Only)

To enhance your user experience, Scale Online Ruler utilizes your browser's HTML5 localStorage API. This data stays entirely on your local device and is never transmitted to our servers:

  • rulerUnit: Stores your selected measuring unit (inch, cm, mm, or px).
  • rulerCalibration: Stores your display's calibrated PPI (Pixels Per Inch) so you don't have to recalibrate on every visit.
  • rulerTheme: Stores your preference for Light Mode or Dark Mode.
  • rulerEdges / rulerMode: Saves your preferred layout (Centered, Left, or Frame).

You can clear this data at any time by clearing your browser's site data or cookies in your browser settings.

3. Device Telemetry & In-Memory Data

To render tick marks in true physical proportions, our JavaScript script accesses non-identifying technical properties provided by your browser window:

  • window.devicePixelRatio (DPR): To compute Retina and high-density screen scaling.
  • window.screen.width and window.screen.height: To detect full-screen dimensions.

This telemetry is processed purely in volatile device memory and discarded when you close the tab.

4. Third-Party Services & Infrastructure

To provide fast, reliable, and secure worldwide access, our website is hosted on high-performance Content Delivery Network (CDN) infrastructure (Cloudflare Pages). Standard web server logs may temporarily record anonymous technical connection metadata (such as IP address, browser user-agent, and request timestamps) exclusively for security diagnostics, DDoS mitigation, and server performance monitoring.

We use Google Fonts served via secure, standard CDN links to render clean typography.

5. GDPR & CCPA Compliance

Under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), users possess rights regarding their personal data. Because Scale Online Ruler does not collect, store, or process personally identifiable information (PII), we do not maintain profiles, conduct automated profiling, or sell user data.

Scale Online Ruler is a safe, educational, and general-audience measurement tool. We do not knowingly collect any personal identifiable information from children under the age of 13.
