Scale Online Ruler is designed to offer high-precision digital measurements directly on your device screen. Please review this accuracy and calibration advisory.
1. Calibration Requirement for 1:1 Actual Size
Unlike physical wooden or steel rulers with fixed manufactured dimensions, electronic display screens vary widely in pixel density (Pixels Per Inch, or PPI).
While Scale Online Ruler automatically detects common device resolutions, 100% true physical 1:1 scale requires user verification using our built-in calibration tool (matching an ISO credit/bank card or confirming screen diagonal).
2. Browser Zoom and Display Scaling
Changing your browser zoom (e.g. setting zoom to 110%, 125%, or 90%) or changing operating system display scaling (e.g., Windows 125% or 150% scaling) will scale on-screen CSS pixels. For maximum measurement accuracy:
- Keep browser zoom at 100% (Default) by pressing Ctrl + 0 (Windows) or Cmd + 0 (macOS).
- If you change zoom levels or connect an external monitor, click Calibrate to refresh the PPI calculation.
3. Not for Certified Metrology or Safety-Critical Use
Scale Online Ruler is intended for everyday consumer, educational, craft, design, and commercial reference purposes. It is not an officially certified legal metrology standard instrument. Do not use this tool for safety-critical structural engineering, surgical medical operations, legal property boundaries, or precision aerospace fabrication where certified micrometer gauges are legally mandated.
